Cultivate: Creative Industries in the North East, is a three-part project, led by Look Again, which seeks to establish a detailed picture of the creative sector in the North East, including key support needs. The programme includes networking events, a survey and a business mentoring programme, and is supported by Robert Gordon University and Creative Scotland.
Creative Industries is the fastest growing sector of the UK economy, with job creation outpacing the UK average. With a workforce characterised by a high level of design, creative and technological skills, these jobs are at least risk of automation of any sector of the economy. The Creative Industries sector in the North East is varied and dynamic, but we don’t think it has a high enough profile within the region. Our aim is to identify what support would benefit the sector and develop a shared, multi-agency approach to delivering appropriate support in the future.
List of Creative Industry sub-sectors: Advertising, Architecture, Arts & Culture, Craft, Design, Fashion, Games, Music, Publishing, Tech, TV & Film.
Particular strengths in the North East were noted in design, with productivity levels outperforming the Scottish average. Despite these strengths, there is no overall coordinated programme of activities to support the creative industries sector in the North East, nor an understanding of what support would best assist businesses to grow.
There are a variety of ways to get involved with the research project, please see below for more information:
